That may be, or it may not be. This child is clearly having some emotional or home problems. It’s not the school’s job to parent, but maybe there is an opportunity here to help a struggling kid. I hope so.

I was suspended once, for fireworks... once for fighting too, but that prick deserved it. We didn’t have detention at my school in Hawaii, just suspension or maybe extra work.

I’d have to push back on the term prisoners . The problem with Saturday detention is that someone has to come in and supervise it, which teachers won’t do without getting paid and which administrators have to do without additional pay. More than anything, the slip shows a failure in parenting.

It sounds like she will enjoy her suspension whether in school or out of school.

Detention was a good time for doing homework. It seems like she would not care. I had to have a 3 hour detention once for being late too many times and not serving regular detention. The 3 hour detention was better, the other students were not annoying and the proctor was not annoying.

It had zero impact, the main take away is that if he keeps getting tardies he may become one of Mrs. Fuller’s “boys” and that is not desirable. He hates the middle school principle.

That's the thing: in your household or mine, Junior getting suspended would be a very big deal indeed. Just like a few years ago when my A student daughter in high school got a letter threatening to label her a truant when she missed her third day of school. It's all geared toward kids from functional households.

So you guys don’t do in school suspensions? We had that. Just like a day long detention period only group bathroom breaks, lunch separate from all others and a whole classroom all to their selves. They found the out of school suspension didn’t deter the bad behavior cause it was like a day off.
